What’s new in Autodesk 3DS MAX 2026.3?
(Released on 12-11-2025)
Animation
- Resolved a problem with the Skin modifier where the Remove Zero Weights functionality was not properly modifying the weight data on the mesh. This would cause the weight data to be recalculated on a refresh and show the removed data as reappearing.
- Resolved a crash that would occur when wiring parameters if the destination controller that is being connected or disconnected with wiring is also actively displayed in the Motion Command Panel.
- Fixed a crash that would occur with Biped when adjusting your Biped animation in the Workbench and your Biped rig utilizes twist bones/links.
- Fixed a crash that would occur with Biped when combining Biped’s sub-animation and IK target functionality.
- Resolved a crash that could occur when saving a CAT clip when there is no animation data in the CAT layer (or any of the CAT layers).
- Fixed an error when running a Cloth simulation in 3ds Max 2026, 2026.1, or 2026.2. Users reported that the simulation results were not similar to what was produced in previous versions of 3ds Max such as 2025 or 2024, using the same data. 3ds Max 2026.3 restores the previous Cloth simulation behavior.
Core
- Fixed a crash in Compact Material Editor when Manual Update is active and you are performing a “Go to sibling” action.
- Fixed a crash introduced in 2026.1 that occurs after undoing a modifier deletion, and then performing an action that flushes the redo stack.
- Fixed several file existence tests to prevent long delays if the file is on a server or server path that does not exist.
- Fixed various issues related to the Scene Explorer:
- Attempting Shift + click to select multiple objects in the Scene Explorer could result in unpredictable or incorrect selections.
- Clicking on the visibility (eye) icon could result in layers collapsing or expanding unexpectedly.
- Double-clicking on a layer name could accidentally result in the layer collapsing or expanding instead of selecting.
Materials
- Fixed an issue that was introduced in 3ds Max 2026 where the gradient bar that helps to visually represent your curve information at the bottom of the Color Map in the Output rollout section of your map, was displaying incorrectly.
MAXScript
- Fixed a garbage collection failure that could occur with scripted materials when Show in Viewport is active for the material.
- Added new reserved keyword called “Kwargs” to 3ds Max. When passing values to Python functions from MAXScript, you can use the Kwargs keyword to pass a Dictionary with Strings as a key. The key will represent the argument name, and the value of that entry is the value you wish to pass to the Python function.
- Fixed an error causing only half of keyword parameters of a dotnetcontrol to be processed.
Modeling
- Fixed an issue where a Helper class object could be incorrectly chosen as the reference target for the Attribute Helper.
- Fixed an issue that was introduced in 3ds Max 2024.2 with the Volume Select modifier where the modifier wasn’t correctly detecting when the volume of an object was partially passing into the volume of another, thus not making a selection. This fix has been versioned so it will not affect scenes created between then and now, it will only be applied when a new Volume Select modifier is added to your object in 3ds Max 2026.3.
- Resolved an issue where the Volume Select modifier was instanced between two separate objects in the scene where one of the modified objects would not properly detect the intersection of the target object.
- Resolved an issue with Volume Select where a second Volume Select modifier, placed directly above another Volume Select on the stack, would not properly detect an intersection between the modified object and the target object.
- Resolved a crash that could happen when deleting presets from the DataChannel modifier where 3ds Max was still expecting to find data related to the preset file.
- When detaching to a new Mesh or Poly object, Channel IDs and data that exist on the original object are now copied to the newly created detached object as well.
- Resolved an issue when attaching two meshes/polys that contained matching per-face data channels, where these channels were not properly merged into the same Channel ID. Channel IDs that exist on the attached object but were not on the selected object will now also be merged.
- Resolved an issue that could cause 3ds Max to crash if the XForm modifier was applied to a Physical Camera and was told to reference an object in the scene that uses a Noise controller.
UI
- Fixed the failure when creating Treeviews with DevExpress through .Net Core in 3ds Max 2026.
